The object of the study – the old-growth forests of the core zone of the National Park "Skolivski Beskydy" and the Nature Reserve "Horhany". The purpose of the work – to develop methods of inventory and monitoring of the old-growth forests based on the materials of remote sensing of the Earth and ground measurement, study of the structure, productivity and phytosanitary condition of the old-growth forests on the territory of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The research methods are silvicultural, forest mensuration, remote, mathematical and statistical methods. Abstract. The methods of inventorying and monitoring of old-growth forests of the Ukrainian Carpathians based on remote sensing of the Earth and ground measurement to study their structure and stand statistics are described. Studies have shown that in the Ukrainian Carpathians, the largest share is made up of old-growth European beech forests (both pure and mixed stands) – almost 182,000 ha; Norway spruce covers about 102,000 ha. The analysis of the horizontal and vertical structure of the old-growth stands and the indices of the assessment of the nature of the spatial arrangement of trees and species diversity give grounds for asserting that the studied stands are complex in structure, mixed in composition, with predominant random and biogroup types of tree placement. It has been established that primeval forests and old-growth forests are key elements for preserving the biodiversity of forest ecosystems. The use of satellite images and the NDVI vegetation index made it possible to identify changes in vegetation cover and assess the condition of forests. Monitoring revealed that there were no significant negative changes in the studied territories during the observation period. Key words: forest science, core zone, remote methods of forest inventory, forest monitoring. Product Description popup.authors Havryliuk Serhii A. Mykola M. Korol Kramarets Volodumur O.
