It has been found that today the determinants of academic migration from Ukraine are: unsatisfactory economic living conditions of the working population, low wages and social guarantees, insufficient material and technical base for basic and applied scientific research, limited funding of scientific and technical activities, the inability of an individual to realize his or her potential and search for optimal ways of self-realization, bureaucracy in the system of activity of the political and ruling elite, integration into the European educational and cultural space. It has been established that the main reasons for the intensification of the movement of large numbers of people from Ukraine since 2014 are the annexation of Crimea, the ATO and JFO operations in certain territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by russian federation. It was found that between March and December 2022, about 7.9 million refugees left Ukraine and sought protection across Europe, and more than 4 million were granted temporary protection or similar protected status. As of 25 April 2023, 8.2 million refugees from Ukraine were in Europe, of whom 5.0 million had been granted temporary protection status. According to surveys conducted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from May to September 2022, with a sample of 145 refugees 11 % of refugees worked in the education sector, 46 % of refugees have higher education. 665,000 students and schoolchildren (16 % of the total) and 25,000 educators (6 % of the total) left the territory of Ukraine. Statistical studies of the reasons for academic migration from Ukraine and the conditions of returning citizens have been conducted, namely: qualitative (interviews) and quantitative surveys.
