Object of research - changes in growth, development and yield formation of different varieties, local forms and somaclones of winter garlic under cultivation in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Purpose - selection and genetic study of different varieties of winter garlic, local forms and somaclones and selection of the best ones by economically valuable traits. Research methods: field - in combination with observations of the peculiarities of growth and development of plants and environmental conditions, the productivity of winter garlic plants was quantitatively evaluated; visual and measuring and weighing - determination of biometric parameters of plants and crop yield; mathematical and statistical - assessment of the reliability of the obtained research results using analysis of variance and correlation. The best results in terms of head weight (61 g) and yield (12.7 t/ha) were obtained from growing a sample originating from Zaporizhzhia region, number 9. The earliest ripening (103 days) was local form 8 from Zaporizhzhia region. The smallest number of teeth in the head was formed in sample 4 (Kirovohrad region) - 4 pcs. High yields were characterized by variants 6 (Dnipropetrovs'k region) and 8 (Zaporizhzhia region), where the index was 10.3 and 10.5 t/ha. However, there was no significant difference in this indicator. The obtained research results are used in the educational process in teaching such disciplines as "Vegetable Growing", "Standardization and Quality Management of Crop Production", "Genetic Resources in Modeling of Varieties and Hybrids of Agricultural Plants".
