Purpose: to study the history of the ethnographic phenomenon of the Ukrainian-Moldovan borderland, its socio-cultural context, models of intercultural interaction and the results reflected in material and spiritual culture. The sources and historiography of the history of settlement of Middle Podnistrovia and Lower Danube were studied; new field research materials were obtained to study material and spiritual culture. The history of migration processes is studied; variants of the development of traditional culture are highlighted. The existence of Ukrainian and Romanian local and regional ethno-cultural complexes was proved, forms of communication and their role in the development of traditional culture were identified, and Ukrainian and Romanian local and regional ethno-cultural complexes in the area of the Ukrainian-Moldovan and Ukrainian-Romanian border were characterised. The author examines the areas of compact settlement of Moldovans in the north of Odesa region in the Transnistrian zone, mono-ethnic and mixed Ukrainian-Moldovan villages, the network of Ukrainians' settlement on the right bank of the Danube, traces the forms of communication with representatives of ethnic groups in the region, and identifies foreign cultural elements in everyday life, economic activity, and weaving. The persistence of markers of Ukrainian ethnic culture in the ritual sphere, in particular in family and calendar holidays, is proved. The knowledge about the forms of communication of the Ukrainian and Moldovan populations at the local level, regional and the consequences of such communications in the traditional culture of Ukrainians and Moldovans, knowledge about the modern strategies of the Ukrainian diaspora in Northern Dobrogea to preserve Ukrainian identity, about interaction with scientific and public institutions of Ukraine and Odesa region, and the I.
