Considering the situation of the Ukrainian language being affected by long historical processes and limitations on its territory, which led to the deformation of the linguistic environment, the case of the Ukrainian language situation requires reconsidering of language protection practices in the European area. An attempt to substantiate the main terms and concepts of language policy for interpreting relevant sociolinguistic phenomena has become a crucial part of the work. The scientific significance of the research embraces the prognostic perspectives of the study, the rearrangement of sociolinguistic terminology, and the attempts to balance the language space and consolidation considering the ethnic structure of Ukrainian society. Practical significance: the obtained results will make it possible to model the principles of language policy in the light of the dynamics of sociolinguistic changes. Research methods applied: descriptive method, sociolinguistic modeling method, sociolinguistic-comparative method, quantitative analysis method, conceptual and lingo-axiological analysis, lexicographic analysis, comparative dictionary analysis, dictionary definition analysis method, field research method (questionnaires, interviews, observations), other methods of sociolinguistic analysis of linguistic material.
