An increase in the content of flavonoids and an increase in the level of antioxidant activity was shown for transgenic wormwood roots, which is observed as a possible pleiotropic effect of the expression in root cultures of transferred rol genes of A. rhizogenes. Specific biological activity was also proven for transgenic plants containing genes for pharmaceutical proteins: the antibacterial protein conicin M and the antiviral protein interferon alpha 2b. It was shown that for a number of transgenic species, the antibacterial and antiviral activity was greater in the roots of the plants, which, in our opinion, correlates with a higher level of expression of the recombinant protein in these organs. However, the studied transgenic plants synthesizing recombinant pharmaceutical proteins or containing herbicide resistance genes did not differ from the control in terms of morphological features, which indicates the absence of pleiotropic effects associated with transgene expression. Research work on the project was carried out using modern methods of in vitro culture, genetic transformation and genome editing, the Golden Gate method of modular molecular cloning, molecular biological analysis and bioinformatics.
