Krypyakevych of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  The purpose of the study is to recreate the collective image of deportations and the traumatic events that preceded this process in the perceptions of immigrants and descendants, and to explore the inclusion of their experience in the historical memory of Ukraine; to investigate the relationship between different levels of identity, gender peculiarities of the memory of deportees. The following research objectives are related to the realization of this goal: to trace the process of forming ideas about the interethnic Polish-Ukrainian conflict, World War II, and deportation, taking into account the peculiarities of creating narratives about traumatic experiences, the way they are passed on to future generations, and the representation of images of the past by the community of immigrants; to find out the grounds for the deportation of Ukrainians from the Ukrainian-Polish borderland in 1944-1951. in the context of the Allied policy in World War II and the formation of postwar borders in Europe; to outline the key stages of social, psychological, and material adaptation of the deportees, to reconstruct their life trajectories on the basis of archival and oral history materials. The object of the study is the collective image of deportations, traumatic events that preceded this process in the perceptions of migrants and descendants, the inclusion of their experience in the historical memory of Ukraine, including media discourses, everyday visions of this issue by Ukrainians, and places of memory; and the subject is the narratives of migrants about life on the eve of the war.
