Research aim – is to obtain basic data on the diversity of epiphytic lichen communities in different habitat types of old and pristine forests in the Ukrainian Carpathians of the national and the pan-European importance for prediction their changes due to global climate changes and peculiarities of regional management: to develop effective management plans on this basis to prevent potential biodiversity losses Methods – field research, microscopic, phytosociological methods (TURBOWEG, JUCE), analysis of literary sources and herbarium materials. The database of epiphytic lichens and their communities of old-growth forests of Ukraine was created, which contains 634 species of lichens, of which 40 species are new to Ukraine, 53 species are doubtful, and 16 species of lichens are excluded from the list. A list of 146 lichen species, indicators of ecological integrity of forest habitat, is proposed. Fourteen lichen-hectare monitoring plots have been established in the Carpathian forests. A scheme of lichen communities of old-growth beech forests has been developed. It is includes 4 classes, 4 orders, 6 alliances and 10 associations. The lichen richness of old-growth forests within the hectare plots and individual massifs was analysed. The effects of global climate change and regional management on lichens were characterised. Proposed management solutions for the preservation of species and coenotic diversity for the Verkhovynskyi, Vyzhnytskyi, Zacharovanyi Kray National Nature Parks.
