Registration Date 28-11-2024 Organization Physico-Mechanical Institute named after GV Karpenko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 The project aims to develop a methodology for assessing the serviceability of pipe steels of existing gas pipelines in the case of hydrogen transportation, based on novel criteria of reaching the critical state for metal and operability criteria, taking into account the current structural and mechanical state and their hydrogenation. The methodology will be tested by IPP-CENTRE LLC. popup.description2 The main result of the work is the development of a methodology for assessing the current structural and mechanical state and serviceability of low-alloyed ferrite-pearlite pipe steels of gas pipelines in the case of hydrogen transportation. For the first time, the influence of gaseous hydrogen on the mechanism and kinetics of the corrosion interaction of ferritic-pearlite steel with aqueous condensate and on the associated intensification of metal hydrogenation and a decrease in fracture toughness characteristics has been established; metallographic and fractographic criteria of reaching the critical structural and mechanical state of low-alloyed ferrite-pearlite steels under conditions of hydrogen transportation have been proposed. A complex of methods for assessing the hydrogenation effect on the mechanical behaviour of low-alloyed ferrite-pearlite pipe steels based on metallographic and fractographic analyses, determination of resistance to hydrogen embrittlement, and taking into account: the structural and mechanical state of steels operated on main pipelines, the anisotropy of their properties, the intensity of hydrogenation, and the stress state in a pipe with a crack has been elaborated. The criteria for assessing the serviceability of low-alloyed ferrite-pearlite pipe steels under conditions of hydrogen transportation have been proposed based on plasticity and fracture toughness indicators sensitive to hydrogen degradation. A methodology for assessing the serviceability of existing gas pipelines under hydrogen transportation has been tested by IPP-CENTRE LLC. Field of application: gas transportation infrastructure.
