To form an optimal set of informative indicators for assessing of the land cover ecological state, an analysis and selection of products and sources of necessary satellite data and geospatial information on the physical and hydrological characteristics of soils, vegetation indices and meteorological indicators was carried out. In particular, a correlation matrix was constructed to compare different sources of soil moisture data for the territory of Ukraine and to assess their spatial-temporal distinction, accuracy and practical applicability with the aim of selecting the best. To determine the soil moisture deficit in the surface layer, a modification of the method for assessing soil moisture deficit was carried out, which involves calculating the porosity index of the surface soil layer based on the hydrological characteristic of total moisture capacity. Using statistical and correlation analysis, a comparison of soil moisture deficit with heterogeneous satellite (optical and radar) data, vegetation indices and meteorological indicators was carried out. The conducted research and the obtained results of statistical and correlation analysis using the GEE cloud platform made it possible to form an optimal set of informative indicators.
