Registration Date 12-12-2024 Organization Physico-Mechanical Institute named after GV Karpenko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 The goal of the project is to develop the scientific basis for the formation of effective electrochemical coatings of the Ni-Mo-B system for electrocatalytic hydrogen reduction reactions in alkaline environments with high corrosion resistance. popup.description2 As a result of the project, Ni-Mo and Ni-Mo-B coatings were synthesized. Their chemical composition, structure, surface morphology, corrosion resistance, and catalytic activity in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline electrolytes were investigated. The mechanism of the HER and its rate-determining step were also determined. It was shown that the catalytic activity of the coatings increases with molybdenum content. For the most effective Ni-Mo catalyst, an overvoltage of 0.250 V was observed at a current density of 100 mA/cm². When doped with boron, the overvoltage decreased to 0.194 V, and after appropriate anodic treatment, it was further reduced by an additional 0.09 V. The hydrogen evolution reaction on all coatings followed the combined Volmer-Heyrovsky mechanism, with the adsorption step being rate-limiting. In KOH solution, all coatings exhibited high corrosion resistance. Thus, the developed Ni-Mo and Ni-Mo-B coatings are suitable for the controlled synthesis of electrodes for use in the production of green hydrogen.  Product Description popup.authors Halaichak Svitlana A.
