The project aims to improve the quantity and the quality of the resources fit for reuse and recycling by fostering separate collection of waste. The project will further provide a basis for planning and carrying out sorting analyses of MSW showing the (minimum) requirements for the sorting site, the personnel and the necessary equipment in order to reflect the best possible picture of the waste composition in this region. Hence the project aims in the development of a MSW system in municipalities of the Poltava region, taking into account the acquired experience of more experienced countries like Austria and other EU countries. Summarized, the overall goal of this project is to support the shift towards sustainable growth via a resource-efficient waste management. popup.description2 Research is aimed at conducting studies of the composition of municipal solid waste for Ukrainian settlements, on the example of Poltava region, in order to improve the existing methodological approach in Ukraine to determine the composition of MSW using European and Austrian experience in this area and to create on their basis a unified database on the component composition of municipal waste and the possibility of rapid assessment of their resource potential for the purpose of further selection of methods and technologies for their recovery. The main results of this research work are as follows: the composition of MSW for settlements of the rural-urban type was determined (using the example of the village of Kotelva, Poltava region) based on the full range of 4-season field studies (sorting analyses) of household waste conducted using Ukrainian and Austrian methodological approaches; the experience of Austria in classifying settlements by socio-demographic stratification was applied, on the basis of which a working information base was created with unified indicators of the component composition of household waste for settlements of different types in Ukraine; recommendations were developed to adapt the European approach to conducting sorting analyses of household waste to the conditions of Ukraine and recommendations were provided to communities on the key stages of planning and implementing a household waste management system at the local level. The practical value is to obtain systematized data on the composition and resource value of solid household waste for settlements of various types in Ukraine, which will allow for a rapid assessment of the resource and energy potential of waste on their basis in order to further substantiate the feasibility of planning and construction of infrastructure facilities for processing/recovery of household waste. The results can be used at the stage of developing local waste management plans for territorial communities. Product Description popup.authors Illiash Oksana E. Bredun Viktor I. Holik Yurii S.
