As a result of the research work in 2024, a model was developed that enables spatial analysis of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), which are diffuse pollutants, with databases created. Areas contaminated with N and P were identified and digital maps were created. The modelling of the daily water flow of the Ros River for the high-water and low-water phases was carried out. For the water runoff validation, the values of the modelling accuracy criteria were rated as «satisfactory». The land use and land cover maps were fed into the SWAT model, which calculated the average annual load per sub-basin unit. Maps of pollution with the distribution of N and P, produced in the GIS environment, were updated, interpreted and the causes of pollution were identified. The scientific results obtained will be interpreted to develop a sub-basin management strategy to take measures to minimize the risks of diffuse pollution. This will facilitate the implementation of the International Nitrates Directive (91/676/EEC) and address the issues of improving and preserving the ecological status of groundwater and surface water on a global scale.
