A new method for modifying montmorillonite (MMT) using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was developed and the structure and properties of modified MMT were investigated. The main advantages of the developed method for modifying MMT are its environmental friendliness (does not require the use of any toxic chemicals; only a biocompatible water-soluble polymer, low-molecular-weight PVP, which is used in medicine, was used), simplicity (does not require the use of complex or specific equipment), high productivity (three types of nanomodifiers can be obtained from one solution at once) and relatively low irreversible losses of raw materials (within 3-6%).
