Loess soils are distributed over 65-80% of the country's territory and quite often have thick layers. These soils are characterized by high initial porosity, low humidity, and a significant percentage of dust particles. The object of the study is the process of compacting the base of highway embankments on weak loess and loess-like silty soils by the impact method. The subject of the study is the influence of impact parameters (contact stress, specific impulse, specific impact energy) on the change in the modulus of deformation of loess soil. Research methods — analysis of literary sources, analysis of the interaction of the system "impactor - soil layer", experimental studies of the influence of contact stress, specific impulse, specific impact energy on the change in the modulus of deformation of loess soil, numerical modeling of impact compaction, data synthesis and conclusions. According to the results of the research, a full-scale study was conducted using the impact compaction method of highway embankment foundations with the determination of rational parameters and schemes of compaction and structures of reinforcement elements of weak loess and loess-like soils, including overmoistened ones, a model of impact compaction of loess based on the model of isotropic soil hardening was substantiated, a methodology for numerical calculation of impact compaction with multiple application of impact pulses was developed, an analysis of test data was conducted, and "Methodological recommendations for the calculation of highway foundations on weak loess and loess-like soils with compaction by the impact method" were developed.
