The oligo-mesotrophic lakes of the Volyn Polissya region have borne the brunt of this increased recreational load. Direct mechanical impact from recreationists leads to the destruction of the integrity of aquatic plant communities and the near-total eradication of hydrophytes in sandy shallow waters, which require undisturbed, compact sand for their development. Rare species of narrow-leaved Potamogeton, which are indicators of high-quality water, are under threat. These species are represented by local marginal populations, making it difficult for them to colonize new suitable habitats outside areas affected by recreational pressure. Research was conducted on the structure and assessment of recent changes in macrophyte communities in Lakes Bile and Svitiaz. Retrospective data series on macrophyte community structure, recreational load, hydrochemical characteristics of biotopes were compiled and analyzed. It is studied the conditions of oligo-mesotrophic lakes and examined the response of shallow-water vegetation zones to acute, localized impacts that result in changes to the structure and quantitative parameters of vegetation. In areas of intensive recreation, natural macrophyte vegetation is eliminated due to trampling, leaving only scattered specimens of eurytopic species. NDVI values for “trampled” shallow waters indicate a trend toward the complete degradation of plant communities in zones of intensive recreation and their inability to recover during periods between “peak” tourist seasons. A 35-year NDVI analysis reveals an overall decline in macrophyte biomass across the lakes’ littoral zones, suggesting that degradation in Lake Bile has reached critical levels. The loss of macrophyte barrier and sedimentation functions is expected to accelerate eutrophication, underscoring the need for urgent ecological management.
