The purpose of the study was to assess the morphological and functional features of progenitor cells in a malignant process. Research methods – cultivation of progenitor cell in in vitro cultures; cell staining methods according to Pappenheim; cytochemical methods of staining cells; centrifugation; methods of light microscopy; cytological methods; quantitative assessment and detection of morphological changes in cells; immunocytochemical method; statistical methods.The main results of the work. The results of the work significantly expand the understanding of the role and level of damage to the stem cell department in malignant diseases. Thus, with MDS-IB, the involvement of more primitive progenitor cells in the pathological process has been determined. At the same time, the study of morphological characteristics of stem cells and progenitors of alveolar epithelium type II (AEII) and tumor cells made it possible to determine the belonging of cells to a certain histological type of lung cancer. Research results indicate a significant probability of involvement of AEII cells in the process of malignancy. Scientific novelty of the obtained results. New data were obtained on the heterogeneity of hematopoietic progenitor cells in culture and the presence of 4 types of colonies: CFU-HEMM, CFU-G, CFU-GM and CFU-MM in humans, mice and rats, which is considered as a general biological phenomenon. For the first time, a new approach was applied to the study of morphological changes in AEII cells - proliferation and atypia were shown, and a quantitative analysis of cells in different areas of the lung parenchyma was performed.
