These changes lead to population declines and range reductions for many animals but also create new ecological niches. Among vertebrate animals, birds are among the most successful colonizers of urban environments. By studying the parasite fauna of urban birds, it is possible to assess the state of their populations, feeding habits, interrelationships, and to some extent, migration pathways. During the first stage of the project, 58 bird specimens belonging to 30 species were collected. In addition to freshly collected birds, collection material was used, including 93 hooded crow (Corvus cornix) specimens and 22 rook (Corvus frugilegus) specimens. More than 1000 helminth specimens were found in the studied birds, some of which have already been identified to the species or the highest possible level (over 60 species of nematodes, trematodes, cestodes, and acanthocephalans). For some species that are difficult to identify using morphological methods, protocols were selected to obtain nucleotide sequences of nuclear and mitochondrial genes. A preliminary analysis of differences in helminth community structures for hooded crows and rooks from different habitats has been conducted.
