Karazin Kharkiv National University popup.description1 The goal is the development of analytical, numerical and experimental methods of studying the interaction of electromagnetic fields with plasma for their application in the KTS installations and in the future in the demonstration thermonuclear reactor. popup.description2  An analytical study of slow waves arising from ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH) of plasma was carried out for the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator. These waves were found to propagate along magnetic field lines for a considerable distance but penetrate the plasma only to a small depth. It was determined that the largest portion of the rays launched from the surface under the antenna falls into the region of ion-ion hybrid resonance. These waves are fully absorbed by helium-3 ions at the plasma periphery due to cyclotron resonance, potentially affecting the confinement of high-energy ions. Experimental studies were conducted on a magnetoplasma compressor facility. Probe diagnostics were developed to determine the local characteristics of electromagnetic fields in the plasma. The influence of an external magnetic field on plasma processes was investigated, revealing an increase in electric field strength and a more uniform field distribution. These results will help explain the processes occurring in the plasma during ICRH and improve methods for plasma heating and confinement in stellarators.
