A system of DNA markers was developed to identify centric wheat-rye translocations 1AL.1RS and 1ВL.1RS. Based on our own practical developments, individual elements of the technology for creating transgenic winter wheat plants by the Agrobacterium-mediated transformation in planta method were improved, which contributes to obtaining a higher percentage of genetically modified variants and accelerates the process of obtaining modified plants with increased tolerance to stresses associated with water deficiency. It was shown that the increased level of proline in transformants contributed to an increase in the drought resistance of the photosynthetic apparatus according to the parameters of the intensity of CO2 assimilation, transpiration, stomatal conductivity and efficiency of water use during photosynthesis. It was established that the extension of the duration of the flag leaf functioning during the reproductive period and the higher activity of the photosynthetic apparatus in transgenic wheat plants with an increased proline content under stressful conditions caused an increase in their grain productivity. Valuable wheat breeding material with unique tolerance to drought in the germination phase was isolated, as well as genetic material tolerant to critical conditions of provocative moistening. It was established that the highest tolerance to critical drought in the germination phase and the highest viability was shown by breeding material with black grain, which combines blue and purple grain colors in one genotype. The only and numerous collection of source material with purple, blue and black grain was collected in Ukraine.
