An analysis of the error of the ratios for calculating the currents in cable shields when earthing them from both ends, presented in national regulatory documents, was carried out. It was shown that they have a significant error (more than 30%) in a wide range of cable line parameters and require revision to increase the accuracy of calculations. The most widely used foreign standards do not contain direct expressions for calculating shield currents. Therefore, new approximate ratios have been developed that allow calculating the RMS values of currents in cable shields when earthing a high-voltage cable line at both ends with an error reduced to 5%. Based on them, a draft amendment to paragraph 2.3.122 of the Electrical Installation Regulations, contains a refined methodology for calculating currents in the shields of high-voltage cables.
