The surface of samples of 15Н12VNMF, 25Н1MF, 35НM steels and Ti6Al4V alloy was modified. The results of studies of the structure and protective properties of the surfaces at different stages of modification are presented. Comparative tribological tests of the complex-modified titanium alloy Ti6Al4V with single and multilayer periodic coatings based on TiN and CrN have shown that the best surface protection against wear is provided by the application of a nanolayer TiN/CrN coating with a superlattice structure, which reduces the coefficient of friction and increases the wear resistance of the alloy by two orders of magnitude in combination with Al2O3 ceramics at temperatures in the range of 20-500 °C. Comprehensive surface modification can significantly improve the wear resistance of 15H12VNMF steel at temperatures up to 500°C by forming a CrN-TiN friction pair. For 25H1MF and 35HM steels, the best wear resistance in the operating temperature range is provided by the Mo2N-TiN friction pair. The application of nitride coatings has been found to protect samples of steels and titanium alloys from hydrogen saturation. Optimal modification processes have been identified that improve the tribological properties of components, increase the wear resistance of parts, and reduce hydrogen saturation during operation. The working surfaces of large serial parts weighing up to 20 kg were modified using the optimized technology.
