It was shown that the vegetation of the Dniester and Middle Dnieper valleys during the Middle and Late Neopleistocene changed in accordance with general climatic trends and under the influence of local conditions. The spatio-temporal heterogeneity of ichthyofaunal groups in the late Cenozoic of southern Eastern Europe was established. There were at least 11 amphibian genera in the territory of Ukraine and neighboring countries during the Miocene, including Paleoproteus miocenicus, which was described as new to science. A palaeoecological reconstruction of terrestrial ecosystems of the late Cenozoic was carried out based on the results of studying the remains of birds. It was established that some of the early fully aquatic cetaceans were tetrapods with functional hind limbs. According to materials from Pleistocene deposits, the presence of eight species of rhinoceroses within Central and Eastern Europe was revealed. Hyena Pachycrocuta brevirostris is described for the first time from the territory of Ukraine. The distribution of three subspecies of Quaternary lions (Panthera spelaea fossilis, P. s. intermedia, and P. s. spelaea) in Ukraine is shown and the presence of P. leo persica in the Holocene is confirmed. It has been established that the remains of the fauna found at archaeological sites located in different landscape zones mainly belong to animals typical of these zones. The remains of a gazelle were discovered for the first time in the layers of the Atlantic period of the Crimean Peninsula. The results of the work can be used to address the issues of morphology, systematics and evolution of various groups of vertebrates of the late Cenozoic of Ukraine, as well as biostratigraphy and correlation of continental deposits of Eurasia.
