Beketov national university of urban economy in Kharkiv popup.description1 The main aim of this work lays in area of enhancing design methods of steel beam to column connections leading to more economical effective structure solutions. popup.description2 End-plate connections of a steel beam to a column, made using high-strength bolts, are an alternative solution to similar connections using electric arc fusion welding. According to modern concepts of steel structures, all connections can be classified as rigid, semi-rigid, and hinged, depending on the degree of clamping of the connected element. The behavior of most known design solutions for connections of steel beams with columns can be classified as semi-rigid connections. Designing steel structures with regard to the operation of nodal joints as semi-rigid requires a thorough study of all connection parameters that may affect its bearing capacity. The concept of using semi-rigid (partially equal-strength) nodal connections in steel frame structures leads to more economical and efficient design solutions [1, 2]. This approach will be applied if this type of connections has a sufficient reserve of rotational capacity so that the transition to the limit state of the entire structure (according to the mechanism of exhaustion of the bearing capacity used in the calculation) occurs before the exhaustion of the bearing capacity of the connection.
