The analysis results show that the main factors shaping the hydrological cycle and causing its changes in the city are microclimatic conditions, redistribution of surface runoff, changes in surface permeability, and transport of significant volumes of water, including transbasin transfer. The overlapping of surfaces increases evaporation and prevents the infiltration of rainfall and surface runoff, reducing groundwater's natural recharge. Such problems are particularly relevant for settlements whose water use covers shallow aquifers exploited by spring capitals, boreholes, and wells. At the same time, extensive centralized water supply networks and other water supply connections cause additional infiltration of groundwater through water leakage. In this context, and taking into account the projected climate change, in particular rising air temperatures, redistribution of precipitation, and high climatic risks of degradation of surface water bodies, it is recommended to review the concepts of water use in large cities in Ukraine. The identification of the climate component in the dynamics of the water cycle in urban areas requires the use of complex integrated methods of time series analysis and multivariate statistics based on well-documented hydrological, climatic, and economic statistics. The rational and economic use of artesian groundwater, protected from climate threats and anthropogenic pollution, is an effective adaptation measure to conserve water resources and ensure the sustainability of society and ecosystems Product Description popup.authors Verheles Yurii I.
