VI Vernadsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 The aim of the project is the development, manufacture and testing of a pilot sample of technological equipment for the hydrothermal decomposition of native zircon concentrate (Malyshevskoye deposit, Vilnohirskyi Metallurgical Mining and Metallurgy). popup.description2 The concept of a pilot model of periodic action hydrothermal installation for the decomposition of zirconium concentrate with sodium hydroxide solutions in the presence of CaF2 has been developed. The conditions for the decomposition of the concentrate have been established, allowing the production of zirconium compounds suitable for their separation from silicon compounds and the extraction of zirconium dioxide of stabilized tetragonal modification from them. Technological documentation has been developed for the manufacture of a prototype of a hydrothermal installation. The installation is designed for an operating temperature range up to 450С, pressure up to 20MPa, internal volume 25dm3, and has 2 technological holes – the first for to load the reaction mixture, the second for to unload the decomposition products. Bayonet-type closures are designed to seal the holes. The set temperature regime is provided by 6 TEHs with a total power of 6 kW. For stir the reaction mixture, stirring blades are installed inside the sealed capsule, and the capsule itself rotates along the longitudinal axis. The prototype of the reactor is manufactured according to the developed design documentation at the production facilities of “LLC Engineering Company “KRYPTO”. A site was set up for pilot testing of the manufactured installation, which was equipped with the necessary engineering and technical communications and its pilot tests were conducted. The test results are indicating the suitability of the hydrothermal process and the designed equipment for concentrate decomposition on a large scale. Unlike known commercial processes, hydrothermal process is characterized by significantly lower specific energy and reagent consumption, does not pollute the environment, as it is implemented in an isolated reactor, and allows for the reuse of starting reagents.
