ZI Nekrasov of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 Theoretical and experimental substantiation, laboratory-industrial verification of energy efficiency of converter smelting technology using new oxygen lance designs, which provide combination of preheating operations of scrap metal in the cavity of the converter, purge bath with afterburning in the raw material conditions of Ukraine. popup.description2  For the first time, due to high-temperature modeling, previously unknown information was obtained regarding the physico-chemical, hydro-gas-dynamic, and heat-mass exchange processes occurring in the converter cavity during the preliminary heating of scrap metal using a new design of a fuel-oxygen lance with the supply of pulverized coal fuel in an annular oxygen shell and combined blowing of the converter bath through double-circuit lance with two-tiered super- and sonic tip oxygen jets with postcombustion of waste gases. Based on the results of high-temperature modeling data processing, the following were defined and substantiated: - optimal ratio of pulverized fuel and oxygen supply due to the proposed design of the fuel-oxygen lance, that makes it possible to increase the thermal power of the lance and reduce the duration of the metal scrap heating in the converter; - a rational technology of combined blowing of the bath with oxygen and neutral gas with postcombustion of waste gases with the condition of improving the thermal balance of the melting and preventing intensive wear of the converter lining. New designs of rotating fuel-oxygen nozzles for uniform heating of scrap in the converter cavity using pulverized coal fuel or natural gas were developed and proposed for implementation in the converter shops of PJSC “KAMETSTAL” and PJSC “Arcelor Mittal Kryvy Rih”, as well as new technologies for combined blowing of the converter bath oxygen and neutral mixing gas with postcombustion of waste gases using double-circuit and two-tier lances allow to reduce the consumption of cast iron for melting, which is accompanied by a decrease in carbon dioxide emissions.
