Purpose - to study changes in linguistic behaviour and language consciousness of young Ukrainians under the influence of war and changes in the language environment; to find out the most common causes of language-based conflicts and typologise conflict situations using direct testimonies of their participants; to model ways of further development of the language situation in Ukraine. The research methods employed included interviews (linguistic biography), questionnaires, participant observation (for data collection), and the descriptive method (for data analysis).The study revealed modifications in the linguistic consciousness and linguistic and national identity of Ukrainian youth in the context of Russian aggression in Ukraine, primarily manifested in the understanding of the concept of 'mother tongue' and the functions of the state language. The transformation of linguistic behaviour among young people, marked by an increased use of the Ukrainian language in all communicative situations, is a key focus of the study.It also examines the factors that enable Russian speakers to adapt to the Ukrainian-speaking environment, alongside the psycholinguistic processes involved, such as code-switching and language stability.The study also models the potential development of the language situation in Ukraine. The results of the work can be used for the purposes of teaching and preparing courses in sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics at universities; creating a textbook on Ukrainian sociolinguistics; writing recommendations for the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the settlement of the language situation in the country and the prevention of language conflicts.
