The features, levels of formation of dangerous chlorites and the influence of the dose of chlorine dioxide, exposure time, temperature and pH of natural water, and the content of organic compounds in it on this process have been established. With the participation of these factors, from 1.0 mg/dm3 of chlorine dioxide, from 50% to 70% of chlorites and no more than 1.0% of chlorates can be formed. It has been proven that the amount of chlorites formed is the highest in the summer, in accordance with the increasing dose of the oxidant at this time (up to 3,0 mg/dm3) and can exceed the national standard (0,2 mg/dm3) by 2-3 times. The use of aluminum sulfate and ferric chloride in water treatment does not guarantee a reduction in chlorites in drinking water to safe levels (0,2 mg/dm3), but it has never exceeded the WHO standard (0,7 mg/dm3). The prepared drinking water met the requirements of DSanPiN 2.2.4-171-10. For the first time, using the non-carcinogenic risk assessment method, it has been shown that the content of chlorites in drinking water at a level of 032 mg/dm3 and above (0,7 mg/dm3) does not pose a potential threat to human health, which also correlates with the data of the toxicological experiment. The feasibility of replacing the chlorite standard from 0,2 mg/dm3 to 037 mg/dm3 is substantiated and further ways of optimizing dioxide water treatment are proposed.
