Research objective: development of scientific and technological foundations for activation-modification of carbonized products obtained from raw materials and forestry wastes to obtain multifunctional and specialized sorbents of low cost, assessment of the effectiveness of their application in removing typical pollutants from the water. Research methods: establishment of the influence of the main parameters of thermal and physicochemical activation modes on the development of the nanostructural matrix and changes in the surface chemistry of activated charcoal (ACC), determination of structural and sorption characteristics; study of the adsorption capacity of the sorbent under equilibrium and dynamic conditions. Substantiated possibility of replacing coal with wood or agricultural waste. The modes of thermal treatment of lignocellulosic materials and obtaining activated sorbents with a developed nanoporous matrix are investigated. Based on the results of adsorption of synthetic organic substances, physical activation modes with water vapor are recommended to obtain effective nanoporous adsorbents for water purification. The main structural parameters are evaluated, the maximum and working values of adsorption of typical water pollutants are established. The structural and adsorption characteristics of ACC are confirmed at the level of indicators of commercial adsorbents from fossil coal. The features of the use of layered/hybrid filters with mineral-carbon, carbon adsorption and catalytic loadings in different modes are studied. The dynamics of changes in drinking water quality when using an individual bulk filter under force majeure conditions is studied. Types of modification catalytic AC are determined to ensure effective dechlorination and removal of organic substances from drinking water.
