Purpose of work: study of sedimentation conditions in the area of the Antarctic Peninsula around the Ukrainian Antarctic Station Akademik Vernadsky to create paleoclimatic and paleogeographic reconstructions of the study area in the Late Pleistocene - Holocene time. The work uses methods of granulometrical, mineralogical analyses and analysis of diatoms to establish their species composition, quantity and conditions of existence. The analysis of the modern underwater relief was carried out using geomorphological and morphometric methods aimed at establishing the areas of the most probable accumulation of modern bottom sediments. As a result of the work performed, the main types of bottom sediments, their lithological, mineralogical and micropaleontological composition were established. 70 species of diatoms were identified. Morphometric schemes were constructed, which allowed to establish the main stages of development of the underwater relief of the study area and to identify the main areas of subsidence and accumulation of modern bottom sediments. It was established that the modern bottom sediments of the Penola and French Straits accumulated during the Upper Pleistocene - Holocene stage of development and have significant fluctuations in the content of granulometric fractions and in the composition of microfaunal complexes. The study of variations in the composition of bottom sediments and the composition of diatoms allowed us to establish stages of warming, which were replaced by stages of cooling, with a general trend of the study area emerging from the last ice age Product Description popup.authors Kadurin Serhii V.
