The purpose of the work is to improve the technology for obtaining diffusion protective coatings on steels and hard alloys, analyze the structure and properties of modified surfaces, in order to determine the optimal processing parameters that ensure increased wear resistance of the material. The tasks of the research are to conduct a patent and literature analysis of the current state and problems of creating protective wear-resistant coatings for parts and tools; to saturate the surface of products with carbide-forming elements; to investigate the microstructure of the obtained coatings and analyze changes in the structural and phase state; to study the mechanical properties of samples after diffusion metallization; to determine processing parameters that ensure increased wear resistance of working surfaces. Relevance of the work: The development of technology requires the search for new and improving the properties of existing materials. This is especially true for the durability of machine parts and tools. Therefore, one of the main tasks of modern materials science is the study of methods for improving the properties of surface layers of metals and alloys. One of the most effective methods of surface hardening of metals and alloys is chemical-thermal treatment (CHT). Multilayer film materials and diffusion coatings based on transition metal carbides have a high complex of physicochemical properties, and their application to the surface of steels makes it possible to significantly improve the operational characteristics of machine parts and tools. The choice of the optimal coating composition and technology for its application is determined by the operating conditions of a particular product.
