Improvement of the radiation-beam complex "TEMP" in order to provide the necessary parameters of REP and GDV, to modify the surface of structural materials. popup.description2 Objects of the study - the electromagnetic (EM) oscillations of microwave range as generated by relativistic magnetrons, of either direct or inverse configuration, with axially arranged extraction of the microwave power. The work is aimed at identifying and implementing, through execution of numerical and real life, laboratory-based experiments, the conditions for maximized levels of microwave power output, at frequencies above 35 GHz, from relativistic magnetrons of direct configuration and axially oriented direction of power extraction. Principal results: 1. Numerical and real-life investigations have been performed concerning the effectiveness of microwave power extraction from high voltage magnetrons of direct configuration, in dependence on а variety of structural and electrical parameters of the device’s output unit. 2. The magnitudes of the d.c. magnetic induction have been established, providing for a maximum intensity of the microwave radiation from a relativistic magnetron of a specific configuration over the frequency range of 35 to 40 GHz (the corresponding wavelengths about 8 mm). 3. The output microwave power, as radiated from the magnetron at the 8 mm wavelength, has been maximized through the use of electrodynamically matched field exrtacting structural elements and provision for high vacuum conditions in the operating space of the device. The radiated power levels, as measured at the output from the pulsed, high voltage magnetron reached values up to 40 MW at frequencies between 37.5 and 40 GHz. 4. Recorded and presented has been the actual directional pattern of the outgoing radiation, as shaped up by the aperture of the oversized output waveguide.
