Methods: cytological, biochemical, hematological, statistical. Aim: to investigate the quality of erythrocyte-containing transfusion products from the blood of donors who were in the war zone (at the manufacturing stage). The quality parameters of erythrocyte-containing components from the blood of donors who were in the war zone have been determined. Individual parameters of donors' health have been studied (according to the data of general blood analysis, functional liver state, iron metabolism, as well as pro-antioxidant homeostasis in venous blood). A comparative analysis of the quality of packed red blood cells collected in three different time periods (2023 donations with archival materials of donations from 2020 to 2021 (during the COVID-19 pandemic) and from 2006 to 2007) has been conducted. It was established that the pro-oxidant activity of the blood of wartime donors significantly exceeds the indicators of the blood of donors of the control group, compiled according to archival data (from 2006 to 2007). Numerous correlations of the lipid peroxidation product levels with such characteristics of the packed red blood cell quality as the free hemoglobin level, pH, and indicators of membrane resistance to hemolytic chemical and osmotic influences have been found. These results confirm the central role of oxidation process levels in the genesis of cell pathophysiological changes in erythrocyte-containing transfusion media during its storage. In order to prevent the development of rapid spoilage of packed red blood cells, it is recommended to give preference to careful selection of the donor for timely identification of factors causing pro-oxidant intensification in the human body.
