The purpose is to develop an improved technology of zirconia products of the Z90 group (stabilized by ~10 % Y2O3 and with Аl2О3 additive) with increased thermal shock resistance at a service temperature of up to 2100 °C. Research methods are chemical, physical-mechanical, petrographic, and X-ray diffraction. Additional studies of the properties (microstructure, phase composition, refractoriness) of zirconia products at service temperatures up to 2100 °C were performed. It was established that the introduction of Аl2О3 additive contributes to the formation of a fine-crystalline, fine-porous microstructure of this refractory, the phase composition of which is represented by high-temperature phases of a solid solution of Y2O3 in ZrO2 and corundum. The refractoriness of this refractory was determined to be 2420 ºС. The studies conducted give grounds to recommend using refractories of this composition in high-temperature installations at a service temperature of up to 2100 ºС under possible temperature fluctuations. As a result of the work carried out, an improved technology of zirconia products of the Z90 group (stabilized by ~10 % Y2O3 and with Аl2О3 additive) was mastered during the production of a pilot batch, which ensures their manufacture with a thermal shock resistance which is more than 3.5 times higher in comparison with the currently manufactured products. This will ensure the prolonged service life of zirconium oxide refractories in high-temperature installations at consumers' facilities. By the terms of the contract concluded with the customer, JSC “URIR named after A.S. Berezhnoy” manufactured a pilot batch of vibro-cast zirconium oxide crucibles with properties that meet the Buyer's requirements. The manufactured products were supplied to the domestic market.
