Registration Date 30-01-2025 Organization Ternopil Research Station Institute of Veterinary Medicine of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 To study specific bacteriophages of pathogens of mastitis of cows and to substantiate the use of phage therapy in the treatment of mastitis of cows as an alternative to antibiotics in the system of ecologically safe milk popup.description2  It was established that the drug "Fagomast" belongs to the 4th hazard class (low-hazard substances), the maximum tolerated dose (DL0) is more than 5000 mg/kg of live weight of animals and does not have cumulative properties. The drug does not cause irritation, does not have sensitizing properties, does not exhibit skin-resorptive action, does not cause local irritation on the mucous membrane of the rabbit's eyes at a number of phage particles from 104 to 109 BFU/ml and does not cause a toxic effect on the viability of cultures of the ciliates Tetrachymena pyriformis. The best experimental variant of the bacteriophage drug "Fagomast" for the treatment of subclinical mastitis in cows was a sample with a Phage SAvB14 titer of 10-9 BFU / ml. It was established that the administration of "Fagomast" to healthy animals does not affect hematological and biochemical blood parameters and does not cause visible clinical and pathological changes. When "Fagomast" is used in cows with mastitis, the restoration of blood parameters to physiological values is noted within 5 days. Under these conditions, the dynamics of changes in morphological and biochemical blood parameters in animals treated with bacteriophage was practically similar to that in cows treated with antibiotics, the difference between the parameters was not significant.
