The subject of the study is the recreational natural potential of various types of reservoirs in the region, its analysis, assessment, condition and optimization of use in the recreational and tourist complex. The purpose of the study: comprehensive study of the natural and recreational potential of the Western region, development of the principles of their rational use and protection, assessment of natural recreational and tourist resources. Assessment of the current state and development of constructive and geographical foundations for the rational use of recreational resources of the Volyn region as important components for the development of the recreational and tourist industry. The achievement of the research objective necessitated the definition and solution of the following main tasks: - study of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the constructive and geographical study of the recreational potential of tourist resources of the Western region; - improvement of methods of research of tourist and recreational resources of the Western region, primarily regarding the assessment of cognitive value; - substantiation of the peculiarities of disclosure of the formation and functioning of tourist and recreational resources; - assessment and typification of tourist and recreational resources of the Western region; - forming the principles of the comprehen sive assessment of the recreational natural potential of water resources; - carrying out an assessment of the recreational natural potential of water resources and typifying the conditions of rest according to the degree of safety and health risks of the recreational person; - substantiation of the principles and directions of optimization of rational use and protection of the recreational natural potential of tourist resources.
