Registration Date 03-02-2025 Organization National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" popup.description1 Experimental and model investigations of acoustic-gravity waves and traveling ionospheric disturbances, generated by high-energy processes of natural and artificial origin, that result in the interaction of various atmospheric and ionospheric regions, disturbances in the near-Earth plasma envelopes and worsen the stability of radio communication channels and the accuracy of navigation systems. popup.description2  Based on the research findings, a simplified method for detecting large-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) using data from a single GNSS receiver has been proposed. This method can be applied in regions of the world lacking dense networks of global navigation satellite system receivers and other tools for studying wave processes in the atmosphere and ionosphere. Using this method, variations in the vertical total electron content over Ukraine during the geomagnetic storm of September 23–24, 2020, were analyzed. Large-scale TIDs were observed following the passage of the morning solar terminator and increased auroral activity. A comparison with incoherent scatter data showed good agreement in the periods and time intervals of TID observations detected by both methods. A search was conducted for traveling ionospheric disturbances propagating near key geophysical periods (winter and summer solstices, spring and autumn equinoxes) over Ukraine, along with an assessment of their parameters. The characteristics of TIDs were analyzed depending on the time of day and season. Continuous data collection was carried out using the radiophysical research instruments operating at the Ionosphere Institute observatory. The research results are of interest to space physics researchers, specialists in the rocket and space industry, and experts in satellite communication and global positioning systems.
