Official estimates of the hazardous household waste amount in Ukraine (0.5–3 thousand tons/year) are likely to be underestimated, as it is several orders of magnitude lower compared to other countries. Besides, only household waste is taken into account. The content of valuable metals and other resources in hazardous waste was analysed. In particular, the composition of electronic and electrical equipment most often used by modern society was assessed. For five electronic devices (mobile phone, computer mouse, keyboard, webcam and computer monitor), the components were identified and elemental composition was determined using X-ray fluorescence analysis. The content of valuable metals in household batteries of various types was also estimated. A methodology for assessing the resource potential of waste for their hazardous components was developed. The resource potential of hazardous waste was also assessed. In particular, the possibilities of valuable resources recover from unusable pesticides (for example, metals, cyanuric acid, etc.) through chemical transformations and the use of combustion products were assessed. Besides ,the potential for refrigerants recover was assessed by calculating their residual volumes in old equipment for case study of household refrigerators – about 2 tons per year. Recommendations for hazardous waste recycling for the case study of household batteries and a corresponding roadmap for the city of Vinnytsia were developed.
