Registration Date 05-02-2025 Organization Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science National Academy of Science of Ukraine popup.description1 To study the processes of formation of ultra-high temperature ceramics ZrB2-B4C-Cr3C2 during sintering and the structural sensitivity of strength properties and resistance to oxidation in a wide range of operating temperatures popup.description2 In the new ceramic system ZrB2-B4C-Cr3C2, the processes of shrinkage and grain boundary phase interaction during sintering were comprehensively studied, the structural characteristics of ceramics were studied in relation to strength properties in the temperature range of 20-2000 °C and creep processes; experimental methods and mathematical modeling were used to investigate diffusion processes with an explanation of the phenomenon of rapid sintering of refractory compounds, and a general description of both the sintering processes of the considered class of materials and the known SHS processes was provided. New methods for indentation certification of ceramics were developed with recording of embodiment diagrams and determination of the complex of strength properties of ceramics. Embodiment models and methods for measuring the complex of mechanical properties at high loads and impact were developed. Based on a serial hardness tester, a setup for complex testing of brittle ceramic materials by indentation under indenter loads (up to 1000 N) with recording of the indentation diagram (load-depth of indentation) was developed, and indentation models, methods for experimentally obtaining and calculating the following characteristics were developed: indenter P-h diagrams; hardness dependences on load H (P); hardness values at loads over 300 N; determination of the contact strength of the material under compression and tension; grain boundary strength of the studied polycrystalline ceramic material. The data obtained from strength measurements and the values of elasticity indices were used to analyze the mechanical behavior of ceramics and the structural sensitivity of its mechanical properties.
