Registration Date 07-02-2025 Organization Ivan Franko National University of Lviv popup.description1 The project is aimed at a comprehensive research of Franko's conception of national identity and cross-cultural interaction with the view to foregrounding the writer's literary and scholarly legacy in the modern Ukrainian and All-European cultural space. popup.description2 The contribution of the universal genius to the development of Ukrainian literature, science, and culture was analyzed at various levels. Attention was given to identifying the national elements underpinning Ivan Franko's artistic work. The profound rootedness of the writer’s literary heritage in Ukrainian folklore traditions was emphasized. Franko's distinct desire to organically combine the best examples of European belletristic writing with the rich and unique “fruits” of his native cultural field was highlighted. It has been established that one of Franko’s central objectives was to create high-quality artistic literature that would be distinguished by its vivid national character and masterfully and, most importantly, truthfully represent Ukrainian identity in all its aspirations, on the crossroads of victories and defeats. This ambitious goal obviously explains the genre and stylistic diversity of Franko’s creative work, as well as its broad ideological and thematic range. The writer successfully worked in various genres (from sonnets to novels), employed diverse stylistic techniques (from the Gothic to modernism), promoted different ideological strategies (from supporting socialist doctrines to championing the national idea), and explored varied themes (from the labors and struggles of Boryslav workers to the philosophical musings of Lviv intellectuals). Significant accomplishments of the Ukrainian scholar in literary theory were articulated, including the development and application of original ideas (for example, in the context of the scholarly reception of the novel genre, Franko devised a set of markers that help clearly identify the leading trends in the development of this genre at various historical stages). Franko's Slavic discourse was specifically addressed, particularly his interactions with Czech, Croatian, Serbian, and Polish colleagues. Numerous biographical details important for writing a scientific biography of Franko were uncovered. Product Description popup.authors Batsevych Florii S. Buk Solomiia N. Hirniak Mariana O.
