The sensitivity of detector systems primarily depends on the parameters of the sensor elements, which are scintillation crystals. GRAiNITA is a next-generation calorimeter with a very high photon energy resolution for use in the FCC e+e- (CERN) experiments. The idea behind GRAiNITA is to replace successive layers of conventional bulk single crystal scintillator and absorber materials with submillimeter and millimeter grains of inorganic crystals with high Z and density. In such a detector, the scintillation light remains stochastically confined in the zone of origin and is collected in the photodetector by means of spectrally shifted light guide fibers running along the entire volume of the detector. The project has developed new technological approaches to create high-quality scintillation single crystal grains of ZnWO4 and CaWO4 by spontaneous crystallization in flux. For this purpose, the raw material was selected, which ensured the absence of color centers, and the charge was obtained by solid-phase synthesis; the compound Na2WO4 was chosen as a flux, which ensured the yield of a monophasic product of at least 80% by weight of the charge; the growth conditions were found, which made it possible to control the size of single crystal grains; comprehensive studies of the characteristics of the obtained scintillation materials were carried out; the composition of high-density optical lead glass for a composite scintillator based on tungsten grains was selected. Experimental batches of single crystal scintillation grains of ZnWO4 and CaWO4 were obtained and mini-prototypes of the GRAiNITA detector based on them were manufactured at the University of Paris-Saclay (France).
