The tasks of the second stage included improving biotesting methods for the presence of toxic compounds dissolved in water; researching the species structure and quantitative indicators of aquatic organisms’ populations of various ecological groups; researching the state of commercial fish populations and assessing their commercial stocks in the water bodies; determining the sanitary state of food aquatic organisms by the content of heavy metals, microflora, and parasite contamination. According to the results of a comparative analysis of the development of planktonic and benthic groups' quantitative indicators from the Zaporizhzhian Reservoir and its tributaries in the modern and pre-war periods, a decrease in the total biomass of zooplankton organisms and individual representatives of the oligochaete complex was revealed. According to the commercial ichthyofauna assessment, a reduction in the linear weight indicators of valuable commercial species and the absolute dominance of low-value species in the fishery are noted. Based on the results of ichthyological researches, calculations of fishery stocks are provided. A comprehensive assessment of the sanitary condition of the fish by the content of heavy metals, bacterial microflora, and infection with zoonotic parasites showed that fish as a food product complies with sanitary and hygienic maximum permissible concentrations. The report contains the results of experimental and field researches on improving methods for bioindication of toxic water pollution with explosive substances and heavy metals using invertebrates and cytometry of fish blood cells as test objects.
