In the frame of the second stage of the project, the macrozoobenthos was sampled in the deltaic areas of the Danube and Dniester rivers to analyse the presence of alien species. The Oriental river prawn (Macrobrachiumn nipponense) was recorded as a paratenic host of the black-spot disease, which could lead to increasing of mortality of local crayfish species, such as Astacus astacus. The analysis of the content of heavy metals (Hg, Pb, Cd, Cu) in water, sediments and invertebrates (Physa acuta, Macrobrachium nipponense) was provided. Analysis of the obtained values of the heavy metal accumulation coefficients in the aquatic environment components indicates a significant excess of the bottom accumulation coefficient over the accumulation coefficient (bioaccumulation). High bioaccumulation of toxic metals, primarily cadmium and copper, by invasive invertebrates creates additional risks of further transmission of toxicants up the food chain. The average values of ACI and RCI indices and the integral biological pollution index (IBCI) were calculated for the freshwater section of the Danube Delta and for transitional waters. The influence of the alien species number on the indicators of biological pollution in the freshwater and transitional waters of the deltaic zones was determined. Accordingly, the ecological status-class of the aquatic environment in the freshwater part and transitional waters was calculated for the Danube Delta. Possible negative changes in the ecosystems of the deltaic zones of the Danube and Dniester in terms of water pollution and bottom sediments, the structure of zoobenthos communities as a result of biological invasions, as well as the risks associated with the spread of invasive species of parasites were identified.
