The purpose of the study is to substantiate the feasibility of reconstruction of the existing building by the method of secondary building. The existing housing stock, represented mainly by typical large-panel and brick houses, was designed and built according to old design standards. The analysis of the technical condition of such buildings shows that, despite the wear of structures suitable for normal operation (30-40%), they have increased moral wear (40-60%). This is especially characteristic of the houses of the first mass series, which make up from 10 to 20 percent of the entire housing stock in cities. In such a situation, the issue of finding a universal reconstruction option that would allow solving the problem of moral aging of residential buildings remains relevant. The moral and physical deterioration of the existing building is considered. The priority directions of reconstruction measures have been determined.
