Work concerns on the development of scientific and experimental foundations for the electrochemical and/or combined electrochemical-pyrolytic modification of titanium suboxides with platinum group metals. Identification of materials, investigation of their physicochemical and semiconductor properties. Determination of the effect of modification on the composition, physicochemical properties, and electrochemical characteristics of the materials. Research methods – stationary and cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction. The regularities of electrodeposition of thin discontinuous layers of platinum group metals on the surface of titanium suboxides have been established. A set of new experimental data was obtained regarding the influence of the amount of platinum group metals on the oxide surface, as well as the temperature and duration of heat treatment, on the composition, physicochemical, and electrochemical properties of the resulting composite materials. The materials were identified, their composition determined, and the morphology, texture, semiconductor, and electrochemical properties of the modified coatings were studied. Experimental foundations for the creation of modified materials of various compositions and the general mechanism of incorporation of platinum group metals into the suboxide matrix of the electrocatalyst were established.
