Head Tolstov Serhii V., Кандидат історичних наук Registration Date 28-02-2025 Organization State Institution "Institute of World History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" popup.description1 The purpose of the study is to analyze recent events and contemporary trends in the context of evolutionary transformation of the international system. The 2008-2009 global financial and economic crisis significantly deepened the decentralization of the international system, intensified competition between the leading centers of power, accelerated the maturation of the US-China conflict and intensified the whole spectrum of contradictions between the major powers including the U.S., Russia, Great Britain, EU, India, Turkey etc. This group of major powers and several integration communities play a principal role in global interaction processes between the main centers of power, which will determine the trends of international conflict and cooperation. Investigation of this problem envisages determination of the main structural factors and trends in the interaction between the main centers of power (US, China, EU, Russia) and integration communities, which are likely to evolve towards the formation of a multipolar international system. popup.description2 The structural and political prerequisites for the phenomenon of intensifying competition and rivalry between leading states and integration associations at the beginning of the 21st century have been determined. The content of the main concepts and categories of political science of international relations, which are used in modern international political concepts, has been theoretically reconsidered. The promising direction, stages and features of the evolution of the international system at the beginning of the 21st century have been determined. The goals and priorities of the leading centers of power related to the state of assessment of global problems and trends in the development of international processes in Europe and Eurasia have been formulated. The nature and systematization of the features of the manifestation of contradictions between the USA and the leading EU countries, in particular regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, have been revealed. The impact of US relations with Russia and the PRC on the configuration of the international system has been analyzed. Specific approaches and differences in relations between the leading EU member states related to the formation and implementation of a common European foreign, security and defense policy have been identified. The potential signs and prospects of a "new Cold War" in relations between the USA and Russia and the PRC are outlined. Forecast options for the development of the security situation in the European and Euro-Atlantic spaces in the medium term are formulated. The optimal criteria for positioning Ukraine in relations with the USA, the EU and NATO are determined from the point of view of the need to ensure peaceful development and return to the path of socio-economic recovery of the country.
