Main objectives of the research: To study the impact of the current state of the world's foreign trade. To analyze the use of protectionism and trade barriers in international trade. Identify the instruments of protectionism that create trade barriers. Develop methodological recommendations for identifying “untapped markets”. Conduct practical tests of the methodology for identifying untapped markets and trade barriers. To achieve the goal and solve the tasks set in the work, a system of general scientific and special research methods was used: analytical - to collect information and summarize the data obtained; methods of analysis and synthesis - to study the theoretical foundations of formation, identify key features, similarities and differences; correlation method - to compare data sets and determine the degree of their connection; graphical and analytical method - for visual presentation of research results. Results of the research and their novelty: Based on the results of a theoretical study of the state of international trade, the author establishes that there is a contradiction between the free trade policy declared by the vast majority of countries and the use of hidden protectionism methods actively used by countries to create trade barriers. The instruments of hidden protectionism and cases of their application are identified. The state of international trade in the world is analyzed and the dynamics of Ukrainian foreign trade in this context is analyzed. Methodological recommendations for determining the “under-traded markets” are developed and trade barriers are identified.
