The causative agent of this infection is an RNA virus of the Coronaviridae family, the Coronavirus genus, the Felinae Coronavirus species (FCoV). This group also includes taxonomically close coronaviruses: transmissible porcine gastroenteritis virus and canine coronavirus. A significant number of members of the feline family are susceptible to the disease: it is most often found in domestic cats, but it is also recorded in lions, leopards, cheetahs, jaguars, lynxes, caracals and other members of the Felidae family. Treatment and preventive measures for coronavirus infection of domestic cats are currently insufficiently studied, which necessitated the need for a detailed analysis of the data obtained during laboratory studies. Given the relevance of this issue, the result of our research is to clarify, supplement and generalize data on the treatment and prevention features of infectious peritonitis, which will allow developing strategies to combat this disease. Infection caused by feline coronavirus occurs in domestic cats everywhere, wild cats can also be seropositive. The infection is most often found in crowded places, in particular in catteries, where seropositivity can reach 100%. In a significant part of FcoV infected cats (according to some data, 12%) fatal infectious peritonitis of cats, especially in an environment with several cats.
