Karazin Kharkiv National University popup.description1 The overall goal of the project is development of new, evolvement and improvement of existing methods of remote sensing of the lunar surface based on the analysis of its photometric function and study of the relationship between its physical/structural and optical characteristics and carrying out of remote sensing of the lunar surface on this basis. popup.description2  The project is aimed at solving the problem of remote sensing of the Moon (determining the physical properties of the surface and its structure) based on space and ground-based photometric observations. The intensification of lunar research by public and private space organizations has led to the accumulation of a large number of different datasets from instruments that have separately the highest spatial and highest spectral resolution. The authors of the research have developed and implemented photometric models that provide information on local relief and photometric correction of data with the highest possible quality and resolution. Improvement and development of new methods of remote sensing of the lunar surface, which is the purpose of this work, are especially important in connection with the beginning and implementation of programs for the exploration of the Moon in the near future, as announced by space agencies of many countries (the NASA programs "Artemis" and "Moon Village Association"). Within the framework of these programs, detailed reconnaissance of landing sites promising in terms of the use of lunar resources is provided. The surface structure estimation methods developed in the project are applicable to these tasks. The results of this project can be applied for space monitoring of the Earth's surface, which is of great practical importance for the search for minerals, monitoring the fertility of lands, analyzing traffic flows, searching for camouflaged objects, etc. That is, they can be useful for such related fields of science as ecology and environmental protection, defense, space, biology, geology. The results of the work make it possible to use the Moon as a standard for radiometric calibration of Earth remote sensing cameras and other extended objects, which is important for the implementation of various programs for space research of these objects and the planning of space missions to the planets of the Solar system.
